What will you do?

The Data Engineer plays a critical role in building, maintaining, and optimising MiWay’s data pipelines and data platforms that support enterprise reporting, analytics, and decision-making. Reporting into the MIS Lead Architect, this role focuses on hands-on delivery and operational excellence within the data ecosystem. The objective is to ensure data is accurately ingested, transformed, structured,and made available in a consistent and scalable manner, supporting reporting, BI, actuarial, and analytical   
use cases. You will contribute to the implementation of modern data engineering patterns, including the Medallion Architecture, and support ongoing cloud and data platform modernisation initiatives.  

What will make you successful in this role?

Minimum Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s Degree or appropriate diploma/certification in Computer Science, Information Systems,   
    Data Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.    

 

Minimum Experience  

  • 3+ years’ experience in a Data Engineering, ETL/ELT, or similar role.  
  • Practical experience within Short-Term Insurance, Financial Services, or a closely related regulated industry.  
  • Hands on experience working with TIA and its data structures (highly advantageous) 
  • Hands-on experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure/Snowflake (advantageous).  
  • Experience contributing to data platform, data warehouse, or cloud migration initiatives.    

Deliverables

The Data Engineer will support the ongoing development and optimisation of MiWay’s data ecosystem in   
line with the enterprise data architecture. Key deliverables include:  

  • Data Pipeline Development: Design and maintain reliable, well-documented ELT/ETL pipelines across multiple source systems, including core insurance platforms such as TIA.  
  • Data Modelling: Build and maintain curated data structures aligned to the Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers of the Medallion Architecture to support standardised reporting and analytics.  
  • Cloud Enablement: Contribute to cloud migration initiatives and the modernisation of legacy data workloads within AWS or Azure-based environments.  
  • Performance Optimisation: Optimise SQL queries, transformations, and storage strategies to ensure efficient data processing and reporting performance.  
  • Data Quality & Controls: Implement validation, reconciliation, and monitoring checks to ensure trusted and business-ready data assets

Competencies Requires

  • Strong understanding of data engineering, data warehousing, and ELT/ETL frameworks.  
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience working with relational and analytical databases.  
  • Practical experience with cloud data platforms and data warehouses such as Snowflake.  
  • Understanding of on-premise and cloud-based architectures and integration patterns.  
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools and production data environments.  
  • Exposure to core insurance administration systems (e.g. TIA) is highly advantageous.
