What will you do?

The MIS Lead Architect is the primary visionary and guardian of the data ecosystem. You will spearhead the design and optimization of our end-to-end data architecture. The goal is to ensure the data used for company-wide reporting is accurate, accessible, and structured for maximum performance, providing a stable and standardized foundation upon which our Business Intelligence and reporting is built.

What will make you successful in this role?

Qualification Required  
• Bachelor’s Degree or appropriate certificate in Computer Science, Information systems, Data   
engineering, or a related quantitative field.  

 

Minimum Experience  
• Minimum of 7 years in data warehousing and business intelligence  
• Leadership experience: Relevant experience in management, team lead, or senior supervisory   
capacity is advantageous  
• Industry expertise: Demonstrable experience working within the Short-Term Insurance or broader   
Financial Services industry is advantageous.  

Deliverables

The MIS Lead Architect will be the key player in supporting the architectural redesign of MiWay’s data ecosystem and enable a cloud ready ecosystem for future integration. Key deliverables include:  
• Architecture roadmap: Design, document and support the implementation of a scalable architecture for standardised, clean and accurate data to be used by the BI & Actuarial teams. 
• Data modeling: Create and maintain complex ETL/ELT pipelines and dimensional models (Star/Snowflake schemas) that simplify insurance reporting.  
• Performance tuning: Ongoing optimization of SQL queries, indexing, and storage procedures to ensure optimal reporting latency.  
• Governance & security: Implementation of rigorous data security protocols and lineage tracking to comply with MiWay’s data governance standards.  
• Vendor management: Research, evaluation and recommendation of middleware, integration tools, and cloud service providers.

Competencies Required

• Legacy Systems: Understanding of on-premise architecture (Oracle/SQL Server) and how to extract data from core insurance systems (e.g., TIA).  
• Advanced user and developer proficiency with BI technologies, particularly Microsoft Power BI. Familiarity with the Microsoft ecosystem (e.g., PowerApps) is beneficial.  
• In-depth understanding of database management systems, Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), and  the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) framework.  
• Strong knowledge of SQL queries, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for structured report delivery, and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for data movement and transformation.
