What will you do?



Outputs / Core Tasks:



The Sanlam Group has embarked on a strategic journey to establish a new world "Client and Intermediary Experience" or "CX" function to deliver the client and intermediary facing solutions and tools in support of Sanlam's digital transformation.


The DevOps Engineer will support multiple CX multi-disciplinary teams to deliver and support workloads in production. In addition, support the Head of CX Technology, partnering with Sanlam Technology to leverage innovative technology to enable client and intermediary engagements and experiences to help our clients to live with confidence, be inspired and assist in guiding them towards their financial aspirations.


The key responsibilities of the role include the following:


  • Design and implement a highly automated, secure, cloud-based deployment and operation models, following an "infrastructure as code" approach.
  • Foster a DevOps culture between Development, Operations and Engineering teams.
  • Provide advice, guidance and expertise to promote adoption of methods and tools and adherence to policies and standards for the cloud and DevOps.
  • Provide technical expertise to enable rapid releases, measuring effectiveness and shortening feedback loops.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to develop and agree on system intergration patterns.
  • Keep abreast of the latest approaches, tools and technologies.
  • Follow a continuous learning approach.

Role Requirements:






  • Bachelor's degree with a focus on Information Technology will be an advantage.
  • Professional-level AWS DevOps certification.
  • Speciality level AWS Security certification will be an advantage.
  • Speciality level AWS Networking certification will be an advantage.
  • Internationally recognised DevOps certifications.






  • At least 9 years of production workload infrastructure design and administration experience will be an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of production workload AWS experience will be an advantage.
  • At least 3 years of production workload DevOps experience.
  • Experience in the financial services industry, working in information technology will be an advantage.
  • Experience in a micro service architecture environment will be an advantage.
  • Experience in serverless architecture.
  • Experience in containerisation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Server and Linux, with a focus on automation.
  • Experience with source control and building systems.
  • Experience in evaluating and intergrating of new technologies will be an advantage.
  • Adept scripting experience in Powershell / Python and Bash.
