Who are we?

Sanlam Specialised Finance is housed in the Sanlam Investments Group Cluster and is a combination of Sanlam Capital Markets, Sanlam Structured Solutions and Sanlam Portfolio Management. This combination ensures that the businesses responsible for managing different aspects of the Sanlam balance sheet are housed together. Sanlam Specialised Finance works closely with the Balance Sheet Management function of Sanlam to assist the Balance Sheet Management Function in its pursuit of optimising the Sanlam balance sheet. The new structure is also expected to enhance risk management within Sanlam. Sanlam Specialised Finance business has two components; the first is an on-balance sheet financing business (similar to those found in the large South African investment banks) and the second is the Sanlam Portfolio Management team. The Sanlam Portfolio Management  team negotiates and maintains relevant mandates with Sanlam, and will determine an appropriate asset allocation for the Sanlam assets. This will include allocations to businesses within Sanlam Investments.

What will you do?

Responsible for the financial reporting function of Sanlam Portfolio Management businesses (SSS, SPM & SEMPM) and analysis of Sanlam Balance Sheet.

What will be your key responsibilities?
  • Set up and manage appropriate financial reporting systems and processes.
  • Maintain portfolio take-on process and ensure portfolio allocation per business line is correct.
  • Perform revenue source analysis including invoicing and fee calculation and align them to portfolios we manage per business line.
  • Perform expense analysis and ensuring that the basis of costs allocation is appropriate.
  • Ensure appropriate recording of income statement items by working closely with the SI Support Services, SIG Finance and Fund Managers including Curo.
  • Involvement in the overall budgeting/forecasting processes and the production of variance reports.
  • Reporting on the monthly financial performance of the business units.

Balance Sheet Management:

  • Determine and set up governance scope and responsibility of SanFin based on the Estate balance sheet as prepared by Balance Sheet Management function.
  • Perform assets analysis on the balance sheet and identify assets that are under SanFin responsibility.
  • Perform analysis of the underlying portfolios for each asset category, identify and rectify gaps as deemed appropriate.
  • Determine the basis in which the identified assets are managed, who manages them and on what mandate.
  • Monitoring and analyzing of assets on the on-going basis and adherence to the mandate thereof.Involved in ad-hoc accounting and operational related projects and activities.
  • Knowledge of JDE, IDU and HFM will be an added advantage.
Qualification and Experience
BCom, CFA, CA with 2 to 3 years related experience.
