The Sanlam Personal Finance (SPF) cluster is responsible for Sanlam’s retail business in South Africa. SPF provides clients across different market segments (entry-level, middle-income, affluent, professional market and business owners) with a comprehensive range of appropriate and competitive financial solutions. These include traditional life insurance risk and savings products, investment, retirement, health and fiduciary services. Designed to facilitate long-term wealth creation, protection and niche financing, these solutions are engineered around client needs.

What will you do?

Ensures that the business units or specific field (i.e. private banking, corporate banking), at the organisation's level, comply across a broad spectrum of specific regulatory requirements. Provides consultation to internal management and could consult to external clients. May provide expert testimony before legislative and regulatory bodies.  Monitors compliance through various means including statistical sampling. Provides regulatory compliance reports to management.

Outputs / Core Tasks:

  • Coordinate and provide guidance to Compliance Officers on activities across business entities within a clustering of businesses.
  • Analyse and interpret regulatory legislation, and using a risk-based approach, developing risk management plans for specific legislation.
  • Interpret legislation and assist management with practical implementation thereof as required by the different channels
  • Provide advice on implementation strategies to be followed to ensure compliance
  • Drafting reports on monitoring results to the Heads and management of the business entities forming part of the business clustering.
  • Provide inputs of a technical nature to internal forums (e.g. regulatory projects and working groups).
  • Provide inputs to external industry bodies relative to specific topics (e.g. ASISA working groups).
  • Coordination of training related to specific legislative requirements (e.g. FICA)
  • Meet the FAIS Fit & Proper requirements to be registered as a Compliance Officer with the FSCA (working under supervision or not) if required.



What will make you successful in this role?


  • Legal or Commercial Degree
  • Compliance qualification (PG Diploma in Compliance Management) would be advantageous.


Knowledge and Experience:

  • Legal background is preferable, but not a prerequisite.
  • Knowledge of financial services industry, especially insurance
  • Knowledge of compliance management processes
  • Knowledge of business processes
  • Knowledge of the business clustering to which the position refers.
