What will you do?

Under general supervision, performs assignments of actuarial-related duties such as preparing, performing and analysing actuarial research and audits. Other duties include collecting data from various databases and performing more complex mathematical calculations.


Output/Core Tasks:

  1. Actuarial Product Owner for Retail Mass funeral and savings products 
  2. Profit, VNB, reserve calculations and updated forecasts for monthly management reporting
  3. Assist with DCS and Prophet modelling 
  4. Analysis of Movements
  5. Analyse the drivers of profits and VNB and communicate insights to senior management
  6. Perform embedded value calculations, AoEV, consolidations and sensitivity calculations
  7. Assist with completing FSCA and other statutory reporting requirements (IFRS)
  8. Enable strategy setting for the RM Cluster by assisting with the preparation of annual budgets and other management reporting requirements as required
  9. Ad-hoc investigations to assist RM management with strategic decisions
  10. Communication of results to senior management

What will make you successful in this role?




  • Actuarial Degree
  • Recently qualified or nearly qualified Actuary


Knowledge and Experience:

  • Relevant valuations experience is essential
  • Proficiency in Excel and Prophet


Personal attributes and Competencies:

  • Strong PC skills (especially Excel) are essential
  • Proficiency in DCS will be preferred 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Analysis of results from models 
  • Good technical expertise
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Quality and detail orientation and concern for accuracy
  • Ability to cope with tight deadlines
