Overall purpose of the role

Responsibility for the management and success of a team of Principal Consultants within ACA. This would include direct line management of senior consulting staff, oversight and management of the region’s budget and profitability, responsibility for the strategic direction of the division.

Main responsibilities

People Management

  • Establish and maintain a succession plan for the team in the area using the formal Talent Management process for identified talent and an informal process for remaining roles.
  • Ensure team capacity and performance management.

Income and Cost Management

  • Rebalance resources between different areas e.g. reallocating headcount or budgets, but within overall approved resources for the year.
  • Monitor Principal Consultant's adherence to collection of budgeted income and minimise budgeted expenses.
  • Ensure profitability of Principal Consultant's portfolios by analysing client income and operational expenses.
  • Query anomalies from finance report received from ACA Finance team with regards to the financial performance of the relevant Principal Consultant areas.

Client Relationship Management and servicing

  • Build and maintain good professional relationships with major clients so as to retain and remain abreast of their needs and issues.
  • Attend committee meetings of key clients to provide high level advice on trustee and employee benefit related matters such as benefit structuring. Provide regular updates to these clients on industry trends and advise clients on potential changes that they would need to make in order to remain compliant with industry/regulatory changes.
  • Conduct market evaluation (general or detailed) for clients in portfolio as agreed upon in the Account Management Plan.
  • Provide strategic input to clients in respective portfolios and routinely identify add-on opportunities for existing client base based on clients’ needs analysis (e.g. Health care strategy, health care policies)
  • Provide a monthly report to Consulting Manager including industry and competitor information, monthly activity summary, monthly plans and client feedback also including the financial income per client. See to it that we receive commission

Team Management

  • Ensure monthly update of the intranet, electronic filing systems (SharePoint), file naming conventions, updated templates and documentation, standardisation of communication.
  • Complete all compliance training (both self and staff in portfolio) successfully.
  • Report quarterly updates and that all minimum standards as per the company standards and guidelines are followed to maintain accurate records of all transactions between the client and ACA, this includes records of advice, and attendance registers following member one on one sessions and inductions where advice is provided.
  • Ensure that all meetings with clients are captured in meeting notes and filed and all client records are updated.
  • Drive FAIS compliance (both self and staff) as per any regulatory requirements or amendments.
Qualification and experience
  • Relevant tertiary degree (NQF level 6)
  • Certified Financial Planner
  • FAIS Accreditation
  • Completed Regulatory Exam
  • Knowledge of Pension Fund legislation
  • Knowledge of King III
