Purpose of the Role
This exciting opportunity is available within Group Procurement Risk & Governance - Group Procurement Commercial Legal Manager at Tygervalley, Bellville, Cape Town. This is a Group-level role in the Group Procurement Office, operating across the Sanlam and Santam Group.
The Group Procurement Commercial Contracting Manager is a specialist management level role responsible for commercial procurement contracting oversight, legal risk management and contracting governance across the Sanlam and Santam Group with the support of Group Legal. Reporting to the Head: Group Procurement Risk & Governance, the incumbent supports the formulation and implementation of the commercial contracting strategy for Group Procurement, ensures compliance with Group and Cluster policies, frameworks, standards and regulatory requirements, and enables efficient first-line legal risk management in collaboration with Group Legal through sound advice, contracting oversight, governance discipline and business intelligence.
Overview of Role Responsibilities (Level 1-13)

Manage a portfolio of major procurement programs in line with overall procurement strategy.
Contract Management- Level 8 - Innovation
Manage the delivery of a major part of the organization's contract management program while taking personal responsibility for a limited number of mission-critical contracts.

General Experience
BComm Law, LLB Degree, LLM advantageous.
Admitted Attorney or Advocate is highly preffered
Relevant procurement qualification(s), industry certification and/or professional membership advantageous.
Minimum 8-10 years’ post-qualification experience as a legal officer, legal practitioner, contracts lawyer, contract specialist or legal advisor within a large insurance, financial services or comparable complex organisation.
Minimum 10 years’ experience in commercial, corporate, procurement or commercial litigation-related legal work.
Minimum 5 years’ senior management-level experience, including managing complex contracting matters and high-pressure deadlines.
Experience in technical legal interpretation and application, procurement systems, procurement processes and legal frameworks.
Familiarity with Contract Lifecycle Management software and advanced proficiency in the MS Office Suite.
Managerial Experience
Experience of planning and managing resources to deliver predetermined objectives as specified by more senior managers (Over 3 years to 6 years)
