Role Description

SLS Actuarial is looking for an actuarial consultant with a hybrid skillset across the actuarial, finance and data modelling domains to join our growing BI capability within the Actuarial Reporting Development (ACTVAL BI) team. The solution focuses on innovating traditional and legacy actuarial and finance practices through the evolving field of BI and data modelling, enabling Sanlam reporting to create and optimize business value.


The individual appointed to this position is expected to:

  • Develop and improve on the implemented ACTVAL solution to further aid the existing actuarial and financial processes that serve a broad range of business needs (such as IFRS 17 and regulatory reporting)  
  • Collaborate with SBI and traditional actuarial/finance functions in SLS (i.e. Reporting, Risk & Capital Management, Finance) to explore and scale the integration of BI analytics within traditional actuarial/finance operations and practices
  • Drive production knowledge and support of the ACTVAL solution, assist with technical queries from business users and ensure that the onboarding process of new users runs smoothly
  • Keep up to date with new techniques and trends in the evolving field of data modelling and assist in translating our learnings into applications for the business

What will you do?

Key responsibilities include:

  • ACTVAL development
    • Maintenance and development of modern valuations processes and BI systems for the actuarial and finance teams
    • Collaborate with the actuarial and finance teams to define and improve the data model for our reporting system
    • Unit, functional and regression testing of technical and business changes implemented in the ACTVAL solution
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Engagement with traditional actuarial and finance departments as well as the wider businesses to embed ACTVAL solution in operations
    • Propose solutions and strategies to business challenges
  • Production support
    • Handling of technical queries from actuarial/finance business users
    • Support with the implementation of new systems & processes
    • Assistance in administrative tasks such as onboarding new users and coordinating installation of ACTVAL software
  • Implement and Monitor
    • Steward the ingestion of Actuarial Results Store (ARS) data
    • Manage ACTVAL permissions and users

What will make you successful in this role?

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years work experience within the finance, actuarial, business analysis or data modelling fields.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in data science, mathematical statistics, actuarial science or finance would be advantageous.
  • More senior applicants will also be considered.

 

Experience & Knowledge:

The following experience would be advantageous:

  • Financial Reporting
  • Advanced Excel/VBA skills
  • SQL database programming
  • Data modelling (Kimball i.e. dimensional)
  • Data governance (EBX)
  • Good knowledge of SLS products
