Overall purpose of the Role

The HR Business Partner is an experienced human resource professional with the ability to develop strong partnerships in their day-to-day work within assigned portfolios. This is achieved through a deep understanding of the department's and business's key challenges and the provision of strategic HR interventions that enable managers and employees to achieve their goals while fostering a positive, productive, and high-performing workplace. In addition, the incumbent will provide dedicated HR support to the Core Operations business unit, partnering closely with operational leaders and employees to ensure people strategies, workforce initiatives, and HR solutions are aligned with operational objectives, driving workforce effectiveness and business performance.

Key responsibilities

Strategic Business Partnering

  • Collaborate closely with senior leaders to understand business goals and translate them into integrated human capital strategies that drive performance, growth, and transformation.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders on all people-related matters.
  • Influence decision-making with insights and evidence-based advice.
  • Supports and advises managers and employees in the specific environment through consistent and effective implementation of Human Resource initiatives and people practices.
  • Liaises with the segment COEs in initiating, implementing and supporting key operational talent management, performance management, learning and development, organisational development.
  • Ensures efficiency in transactional operations such as recruitment, Employee relations, and data management for their areas of responsibilities.
  • Executes and implements the Human Resource Operational Plan to ensure that all HR services are delivered within agreed upon timelines and set standards.

 

Own Talent Management & Succession Planning for business area

  • Builds leadership competence through coaching and guide line management around people
  • processes to deliver the People Strategy
  • Implements a talent management framework (including succession management) and works with
  • the Manco team to implement
  • Identifies the immediate and long-term talent issues that impact the area and put appropriate
  • plans in place to address
  • Drive talent reviews, succession planning, and career development initiatives to build a strong
  • leadership pipeline and retain top talent.
  • Support leadership pipeline development and critical skills retention.
  • Provide day–to–day on the job and off the job advice and support to employees and line managers on policies, practices and procedures while ensuring consistent application across the respective business unit.

 

Liaises with the Organisational Development CoE and performs activities to

  • Maintains and updates the organisational structure (organogram) so that an approved structure is maintained and kept up-to-date;
  • Develops, maintains, updates and reviews job descriptions to ensure that all positions on approved organisational structure have up-to-date job descriptions that reflects the duties and responsibilities (job outputs) and job requirements (job inputs) required for the job;
  • Maintains and implements the performance management system.
  • Ensure all new appointees, promoted employees and those moving to different roles within the organisation are properly onboarded.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in human resources.
  • Post graduate qualification preferred.
  • 5 -7 years’ experience in an HR generalist role preferably within a corporate or financial services environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in talent management, workforce planning, organizational design, and employee engagement.
  • Proven record of helping organisations to become more effective using its human capital.

Knowledge and skills

  • A strong understanding of HR legislation and requirements, and the ability to apply the relevant legislation in the work environment. Specifically, knowledge of employment practices & compliance (Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity Act, Skills development Act)
  • Strong communication skills and presentation skills
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyse and interpret statistical data/HR analytics
  • Relating and networking
  • Must be a team player and able to work collaboratively with and through others
  • Background in leadership development and coaching
