What will you do?

The Contract Manager is responsible for the establishment and management of IT contracts regarding IT services, software and hardware required to support the Sanlam Group. This includes vetting, drafting, negotiation and the facilitation of signature of contracts. 

Acts as counsel on issues involving company IT Contracts contents with complex regulatory standards. Reviews contracts and other legal documentation and provides advice on appropriate action. Coordinates legal matters requiring external legal assistance. Provide work leadership and mentoring to Contracts Administration staff. 

Identify and recommend measures to address Contracts Management risks, which may impact on Sanlam Limited, Sanlam Life Insurance Limited as well as the Sanlam Group (collectively Sanlam). Provide advice on matters impacting on Sanlam and advise on and all agreements governing relationships between Sanlam and its service providers.

What will make you successful in this role?

  • Internal Contracts: Contracts between IT and internal business units within Sanlam.
  • External Contracts: Contracts between Sanlam and suppliers outside of Sanlam.
    • This includes, but is not limited to, the following type of contracts:
      • Master agreements, Outsourcing agreements, Non-disclosure agreements, Data Protection Agreements, Hardware Support and maintenance, Hardware and Software procurement, Software License, Support and Maintenance, Software Development and Implementation, Professional services, Project based services, Cloud-based Services and subscription agreements
  • Draft, compile and review contracts up to and including final sign off.
  • Provide support to, and facilitate engagement between, all stakeholders (including vendor management, business, technical and legal) throughout the contracting process.
  • Facilitate and provide input into contract negotiations regarding standards, duplications, synchronisations and normalisation of contract details. (Make use of templates).
  • Manage template changes (Liaise on changes to be introduced).
  • Negotiate contract details with relevant stakeholders (Assist and/or be responsible for contract negotiations / changes and/or coordinate legal input during negotiations).
  • Facilitate contract signatures with Sanlam Business representatives and other Service Provider signatories.
  • Manage changes to all Contracts (Accept responsibility of liaison) and assist in contract renewals (Attend to contract changes to be introduced). 
  • Manage Group contracts (Contract consolidation / optimisation i.e. economies of scale will be achieved as and when viable )
  • Identify and recommend measures to address issues in the contracting process, including legal and IT risks, which may impact on the Sanlam Group.
  • Identify and recommend measures to improve the contracting process.
  • Liaise with Group Information Security, Group Legal and Group Compliance (as well as other Group functionaries) to ensure that third party risk is managed effectively. 
  • Improving relevant update clauses on the standard templates for the benefit of the Sanlam group.
  • Facilitate clear communication channels between other Legal functions in the Group and SGT.
  • Coordinating access to Litigation advice and/or management.
  • Coordinate all legal aspects of intellectual property rights or trademarks in the name of Sanlam Limited or Sanlam Life Insurance Limited;


The below requirements will be adventageous:

  • A Law Degree
  • Knowledge of IT contracting in the context of the financial services industry and financial sector regulation



  • Appropriate corporate experience, preferable in the financial services sector
  • an understanding of the complexities associated with IT COntracts
  • 5 - 10 years working experience
  • Understanding of the Technology and Legal environment
  • Proven contract drafting skillls
