Who are we?

Sanlam Group Technology is responsible for the provision of a digitally enabled technology service as a group COE, drive business and transformation and provide group-wide digital and data architecture. We operate the various technology platforms and shared services, ensure Cyber and Information Security resilience, and act as technology governance and risk orchestrator for technology across Sanlam.

What will you do?

The Technology Architect - Data Platforms is responsible for the design, validation and oversight of all technology aspects of the Data platforms, under the guidance of the Domain Architect: Data. This role is focused on the design of solutions which enable existing and new infrastructure and application components, existing and new applications, packaged software offerings and systems to work together within the Sanlam Group Technology environment.

In collaboration with other architects within the business you will be responsible to translate the conceptual and logical Data Platform architectures into system/technology/infrastructure architectures that can be implemented in the context of the Sanlam Group Technology environment.

You are responsible for the design and validation of all required integration points of the data platform technology components to the rest of the Sanlam technology landscape – using internal, vendor and external expertise where required.

You will provide recommendations to the SGT leadership teams on efficiency improvements to the data platforms. Engage with all stakeholders in the Sanlam Group in a technical level to make sure we achieve synergies in terms of tools, technology, patterns and solutions used.

You will consult with technical stakeholders to ensure the data platforms remains viable for their current and future technical requirements.

You will also be required to participate in roadmap exercises, budgeting and planning as well as cost-recovery modeling.
 

What will make you successful in this role?

  • Responsible for the development of systems/technology/infrastructure architectures that describes the complete set of components and interfaces that make up IS application solutions to specified business requirements in a large, complex organisation. 
  • The specification, product selection and design of infrastructure components to implement a systems architecture. 
  • The identification of new and emerging software technologies, methodologies and products, and ICT methods and techniques and the ongoing assessment of their relevance and potential value to the organisation.
  • The planning, designing and building of the IT infrastructure and technology architecture to support the Sanlam data platforms. This includes computer hardware, server hardware, storage and backup, operating systems, utilities software and data storage / management software, network as well as integration between the components of the platform.
  • Complete logical and physical designs and present this to domain architects and IT management teams for approval.
  • Maintain knowledge of IT Infrastructure architecture, standards and practices and consistently applies these standards utilising a combination of relevant Architecture Models such as Technology, Data, Access, Identity, Security Management Models and Change Management Models.
  • Review and assess infrastructure solutions for specific challenges or risks, and guide business enabling IT investment.
  • Complete solution expense overviews and provide business unit or company billing models.
  • Ability to act in the Technical Delivery Lead role for infrastructure projects for the data platforms

Qualifications

  • National Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering or another quantitative field preferred

 

Experience

  • 5-10 years related experience
  • Strong experience in designing, integration and managing complex infrastructure solutions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in systems/infrastructure architecture, and experience working as an architect in large complex environments.
  • Technology Architecture design and delivery experience (e.g. TOGAF)
  • Operating Systems: Linux / Windows
  • Database systems (e.g. SAP HANA / Hadoop / Cloudera)
  • Data System management (monitoring / backup / recovery)
  • Solid understanding of Identity and access management technologies (LDAP / Kerberos / SAML / IBM IAM products)
  • Network configuration
  • Distributed systems
  • Cost and Recovery model designs
  • Consumption tools (SAP Business Objects/PowerBI/Qlik)
  • ETL tools (e.g. SAP Data Services)
  • Exposure to modern data platform technologies that support cloud, big data, real-time data provisioning, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence implementations.
