Position Overview
This is a data analyst role in the Banking business unit. The retail transactional banking proposition, delivered in partnership with GoTyme, is Sanlam’s entry into retail banking for its large and diverse customer base. This role is central to how the Banking BU measures commercial success, understands P&L drivers, and makes evidence-based decisions about distribution, customer activation, and segment strategy. Your primary unit of analysis is the banking P&L and its drivers. You will start from financial outcomes and work backwards to explain them, connecting revenue performance to the customer behaviours and channel activities that caused it. Your analysis will inform the banking customer acquisition strategy, providing outcome based evidence on its efficiency.
Through your analysis and reporting, you will ensure we always know how the banking proposition and various products are performing and why, and that we can link that to what we know about our customer segments. This is not just a reporting role; it is a business partnering role, where the quality of your insight directly shapes how Sanlam successfully drives banking adoption within its customer base. Your ability to explore and interrogate data, generate impactful visualizations, and deliver data-driven stories will be key in shaping banking proposition success. You will be embedded in the banking BU, working in close collaboration with marketing insights team and the digital products and experiences insight team.
What you’ll achieve in the first 12 months
- We have a working P&L model that connects banking revenue lines to their drivers: Build a driver-based model of the banking P&L covering all revenue and cost streams. Work with the business to validate the model.
- We always know how the banking business is performing and roughly why: Deliver curated performance metric visualisations that always starts from the P&L and decomposes variances into the driver behaviours that explain them.
- We understand which channels and segments produce the most commercially valuable banking customers: Connect distribution attribution data to banking transaction behaviour data to show which channels produce customers who actually transact, and what that means for the P&L and distribution strategy.
- We are learning fast about Sanlam customers' banking appetite: We leverage our knowledge of our customers with emerging banking behaviours to generate insights about activation propensity and product appetite.
