Actuarial Manager: Individual Products

In terms of the Sanlam Group Governance Policy, SDM is managed by the SA Retail Mass cluster, which is part of the Sanlam Life and Savings cluster within the Sanlam Group. The cluster focusses on retail products, as well as group schemes.
What will you do?
- Participate in the design of funeral, risk, credit life, savings and retirement products for Sanlam Retail Mass.
- Oversee the required research and competitor analysis to support the positioning and development of products and solutions.
- Design and implement other solutions that address needs of the Sanlam Retail Mass target market.
- Contribute to cross-sell initiatives from a product perspective.
- Assist the pricing team in pricing new products, or changes in products or benefits.
- Coordinate the implementation of new products or changes to products, benefits or business rules on various systems from a product perspective.
- Coordinate experience investigations to monitor the adequacy of pricing and valuation bases.
- Leverage data to derive insights to drive strategy.
- Support other teams in Product Development and Actuarial Support with the maintenance of in-force products – this may include reinsurance work, support with technical queries and other ad-hoc projects.
- Contribute to all product material – training, marketing, client facing and other.
- Monitor product performance and implement reviews to address short-comings or evolving needs.
- Monitor the individual product offering from a TCF perspective and implement adequate monitoring mechanisms to illustrate this.
- Support the Individual Products team to ensure teamwork towards targets, as well as team growth and development.
- Provide support on various ad-hoc projects where needed.
- Build models to assist the broader business in decision making.
- Assist with the assessment and managing of regulatory impacts on the business.
- Opportunity to manage a small team of actuarial students.
What will make you successful in this role?
Qualification & experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
- Qualified Actuary.
- At least 7 years’ working experience, of which 3 years in life insurance product development or valuations.
Knowledge and Skills
- Actuarial problem-solving skills.
- Insurance business knowledge.
- Business analysis skills.
- Computer skills – proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint), Prophet and DCS. VBA programming and SQL advantageous.
