Purpose of the Role
To independently assess and price risks within an allocated portfolio, applying interpretive judgment to balance growth objectives with acceptable financial exposure.
This is a specialist position that reports directly to Operations Manager: Underwriting. The role is accountable for the assessment and execution of a compliant and effective medical underwriting function in telephonic support of mainly sales from a medical underwriting perspective, but it includes support to claims and service functions. Key responsibilities include:
Assess and execute medical underwriting to support:

- Telephonic support for sales (main function)
- Review of referred underwriting quotes;
- Facilitating communication of medical declines to clients;
- Quality Assurance
- Client policy amendments with underwriting changes/impact (Servicing)
- Claims process
Overview of Role Responsibilities (Level 1-13)
Underwriting Insurance Cases - Level 4 - Process Expert
Prepare new business and renewal quotations by referring to rating manuals and performing calculations in accordance with prescribed formulae to ensure that prices quoted meet the organization's commercial objectives.
Organizational Risk Management- Level 4 - Process Expert
Gather, monitor, and analyze risk data and recommend further investigation. Involves using established risk management models, systems, and protocols and working under direction.
Regulatory and Compliance Management- Level 4 - Process Expert
Carry out a wide range of compliance monitoring activities and give basic advice on compliance and regulatory requirements.
Applicant Insurance Risk Assessment- Level 4 - Process Expert
Contribute to daily operations in insurance risk assessment for a moderate number of applications, reviewing moderate amounts of risk and sensitivity.
Underwriting Automation- Level 4 - Process Expert
Help with research and analysis to support the development, validation, and improvement of automated underwriting processes and systems.

General Experience
- Sound experience and understanding of straightforward procedures or systems (Minimum 1 year)
- Experience in financial distribution sales and servicing, specifically in a call centre environment
- Experience in processing of new business in a life insurance
- 2-3 years medical underwriting experience
- Nursing or medical background experience
