Sanlam Financial Markets (“SFM”) is the business unit in Sanlam Group that is responsible for managing shareholder credit, market, and liquidity risks, developing balance-sheet enabled products, and developing solutions to optimize Sanlam’s balance sheet(s) to generate shareholder value. SFM works closely with the Balance Sheet Management function of Sanlam to assist the Balance Sheet Management Function in its pursuit of optimising returns on the Sanlam balance sheet.

Job Purpose

The Accounts Payable and Receivable Clerk is responsible for carrying out transactional accounting functions, while developing a solid foundation in accounting practices.

This role supports accurate financial reporting by ensuring correct cost allocations and assists with month-end reporting tasks such as reconciliations, including bank, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and supplier reconciliation journal processing. Additional duties include maintaining fixed assets and providing support during audits.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts payable

  • Capture and process supplier invoices.
  • Perform monthly supplier reconciliations.
  • Prepare payment schedules for review.
  • Resolve supplier queries in a timely manner.

Accounts Receivable

  • Process customer invoices and receipts.
  • Perform debtor reconciliations.
  • Assist with follow-up on outstanding accounts.

Bank and Cash

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Investigate and clear reconciling items promptly

 

Key Responsibilities Continues

Fixed Assets

  • Maintain the fixed asset register.
  • Process asset additions and disposals.
  • Assist with depreciation calculations and related journals

General Ledger & Control Accounts

  • Reconcile intercompany control accounts
  • Assist in maintaining general ledger accuracy.
  • Investigate and clear suspense accounts

Journals

  • Process month-end journals including provisions, prepayments, accruals, and depreciation.
  • Ensure all journals are supported by appropriate documentation and necessary approvals.

 

Key Responsibilities Continues

Audit & Compliance

  • Prepare audit files and supporting schedules.
  • Respond to auditor queries under supervision.
  • Assist with VAT compliance and documentation.
  • Maintain proper financial filing systems.

Qualifications

  • B/ Comm or relevant Diploma with 5 to 6 years related experience.

Experience

  • Five years of experience in Accounts Payable and Receivable (Financial services industry experience preferred)
  • Exposure to general ledger and accounts reconciliations is required.
  • General accounts and JDE experience

Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles.
  • General ledger exposure.
  • Intermediate skills in Excel.
  • High level of numerical accuracy.
