The Group Office provides strategic direction and support to the five clusters, assisting them in realising their strategies and meeting their business objectives. The Group Office is responsible for governance and for the Group's centralised functions, which include: Finance, Actuarial and Risk Management, Strategy, Human Resources, Market Development and Sustainability.
What will you do?
An opportunity exists to play a pivotal role in the design and implementation of a transformative Group Treasury capability for Sanlam. The Group Treasury capability is currently in its early stages of development, offering a unique opportunity to shape and implement best-in-class treasury practices from the ground up.
This role will contribute to the development and implementation of new treasury capabilities across the Sanlam Group. Concurrently, it will involve managing specific day-to-day treasury operations as they are established and integrated into standard business practices.
Due to the strategic importance of this initiative, the role will report to the Head: Group Actuarial, Risk & BSM Strategic Projects.
What will make you successful in this role?
Success in this role will require a highly motivated and results-oriented individual with a strong understanding of treasury principles and proven experience in implementing treasury strategies. The role will initially focus primarily on the design and implementation of treasury capabilities across the Group, transitioning over time to the management and optimisation of group-wide capital, funding and liquidity through the oversight and execution of day-to-day treasury operations and risk management, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key deliverables expected from this role:
Design and implement a best-in-class Group Treasury capability, with a focus on enhancing yield on cash balances, improving cash generation and repatriation, optimising intra-group funding and liquidity transfers, improving FX flows and hedging outcomes, and standardising cash, funding, liquidity and FX management practices across the Group.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement the long-term treasury strategy, aligned with overall business objectives.
- Conduct in-depth market analysis and competitor benchmarking to identify best practices and emerging trends in treasury management.
- Lead / drive key workstreams providing input into the design and implementation of the Group Treasury operating model.
- Develop and implement treasury policies, frameworks, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
- Support the TMS requirements specification, vendor selection and system implementation process.
- Assume responsibility for various operational activities / processes and reporting requirements as they transition into BAU.
- Manage the company's cash, funding and liquidity position, ensuring sufficient funds are available to meet operational and investment requirements.
Qualification and Experience
- CA(SA) or similar degree within Finance or Economics, with more than 7 years’ experience.
- Minimum 5-7 years’ years of relevant experience in treasury or a related financial role within the insurance or financial services industry.
- Professional certifications such as CTP, CFA or FRM will be an advantage.
