Sanlam Collective Investments (SCI)

In these cases, the third-party funds are distributed and promoted by the respective financial services companies, whereas Sanlam Collective Investments is responsible for the client administration and compliance.
About the Position:
The data stream at Sanlam Collective Investments requires a Data Analyst with ETL and reporting skills to complement the existing Data stream. The Data stream is responsible for data quality, data integrity, security, audit information and producing exception reports, and producing tools and dashboards, both operational and on tabular models. The data stream also signs off on architectural design and integration into other platforms within the business and provides input into groupwide data excellence programs.
The Data Analyst will be responsible for identifying opportunities for improvement in data quality and integrity, and building health checks and exception reports supporting specific business questions and strategies. The data analyst with be expected to write complex data queries to investigate and solve business queries and suggest and build long term solutions to ensure better data integrity and processes over time.
The role will include occasional after-hours work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform data analyses on data to support specific data questions and provide either one-off or scheduled reports to the business to improve processes.
- Identify data integrity and quality gaps and propose solutions.
- Ensure adequate controls are built into business processes to ensure data integrity over time.
- Investigate and resolve data issues logged and raised via the support team within agreed timeframes.
- Closely working with business teams, development team, vendors and testers to ensure requirements are delivered in an expected format.
- Supporting the business with regard to business and process improvements.
- Provides inputs into training manuals and assists with the transfer of knowledge to end users and trainers.
- Translate business requirements into BI and Operational solutions in the SQL server environment.
- Ensure appropriate documentation is created and maintained.
- Ability to perform process mapping and design.
- Provide input into test case design and test case execution to support the QA team.
- Provide input into business analyst artifacts to design appropriate solutions.
Solid data warehousing experience and operational SQL server background:
Data Analysis and Interpretation:
- Analysing complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
- Interpreting data to understand business performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Investigate and resolve data issues logged and raised via the support team within agreed timeframes.
Data Visualisation and Reporting:
- Developing and maintaining dashboards, reports, and data visualisations using BI tools (e.g.Power BI/SSRS).
- Presenting data clearly and concisely to stakeholders.
Data Warehousing and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load):
- Designing and implementing data models and databases.
- Developing and maintaining ETL processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Managing data warehouses.
- Designing and implementing solutions based on business needs on operational databases.
Requirements Gathering and Collaboration:
- Collaborating with stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into BI or operational solutions.
- Interpreting BA documentation and completing technical design and implementation for data analysis, operational and reporting projects.
Data Quality and Governance:
- Monitoring data quality and performing data cleansing activities.
- Ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and security.
- Implementing data governance policies.
BI Tool Management and Support:
- Managing and maintaining BI systems, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
- Providing technical support and training to users on BI tools and reports.
- Staying up to date on new and emerging BI technologies.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric (Grade 12) and a relevant tertiary qualification.
- Experience in data analyses and BI tools relevant (SQL).
- Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in a data analyst, BI specialist or similar role (SQL).
- Collective Investment Schemes experience is advantageous.
Technical Competencies:
- Good understanding of the software development lifecycle, both waterfall and agile.
- Solid SQL knowledge.
- Solid knowledge of SSRS, SSMS and SSIS.
- Strong Excel knowledge using Excel formulas.
- Knowledge of Power BI.
- Knowledge of ETL and working with tabular models using Dax (advantageous).
- Experience working within a fast-paced and dynamic business environment.
- Ability to transfer knowledge to users, trainers and peers.
- Ability to package and present analysis with recommendations to management and executive teams.
- Time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and show initiative.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences and interact with all types of clients, including technology, business, management and executive management.
