Please note that this role is in the Botswana General Insurance entity within the SanlamAllianz Group. Botswana Insurance Company (BIC), a leading provider of short-term insurance in the Botswana market.

What will you do?

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Claims Assessment Manager to lead our claims evaluation team in Botswana. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the assessment of both motor and non-motor insurance claims, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely resolution. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a customer-focused mindset to drive efficiency and deliver exceptional service outcomes.

Should the successful candidate be based in South Africa, they will be required to relocate to Botswana. Please note that this is a 5 year contract. 

What will make you successful in this role?

Responsibilities amongst others includes the following:


•    Lead and manage the end-to-end assessment process for both motor and non-motor claims, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
•    Provide expert technical guidance on complex claims cases across both portfolios.
•    Collaborate with service providers, repairers, assessors, underwriters, and internal departments to ensure informed and fair claim outcomes.
•    Monitor claims trends and drive initiatives to improve turnaround times, customer experience, and cost control.
•    Develop, coach, train, and mentor a team of claims personnel to deliver consistent, high-quality results.
•    Ensure all assessments are well-documented and meet internal and external audit standards.
•    Prepare regular reports and present findings to senior management.
•    Participate in loss adjusting and legal discussions relating to settlements.
•    Represent the company in disputes and in court when required.
•    Review and assess complex or high-value claims for validity, policy coverage, and potential fraud.
•    Manage auctions and salvage disposal processes.
•    Support other business functions where claims expertise is required.
•    Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

Qualification and Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, or a related field.
•    Professional insurance qualification (e.g., ACII, AIISA, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
•    Minimum of 5 years’ experience in motor and non-motor claims assessment within the short-term insurance industry, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
•    Strong understanding of claims processes, policy interpretation, and loss adjustment practices.
•    Proven leadership capabilities with a passion for people development.
•    Background in Construction Engineering will be an added advantage.

Turnaround time
