The Group's five business clusters (Sanlam Fintech, Sanlam Life and Savings, Sanlam Investment Group, Sanlam Allianz and Santam) house the Group's business operations. The Group Office provides strategic direction and support to the five clusters, assisting them in realising their strategies and meeting their business objectives. The Group Office is responsible for governance and for the Group's centralised functions, which include: Finance, Actuarial and Risk Management, Strategy, Human Resources, Market Development and Sustainability.
What will you do?
The role is within the Sanlam Group Data Privacy Office. As the successful candidate you will assist the Statutory Information Officer with overseeing the implementation of the data privacy strategy, the data privacy compliance framework and risk management support for compliance with relevant data protection laws and regulations. You will facilitate the implementation of data privacy programmes across the Group and with regular reporting to ensure compliance with the applicable data privacy and protection laws.
What will make you successful in this role?
- Implementation, monitoring and reporting on the adoption and compliance with data privacy policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Supporting the Group Statutory Information Officer’s functions and duties in terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”);
- Supporting the Group Statutory Information Officer’s functions and duties in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2 of 2000 (“PAIA”);
- Proactively identify and manage defective data privacy controls in Group data processing activities.
- Conduct privacy risk assessments and audits to identify and evaluate potential privacy risks and maintain accurate records thereof.
- Ensure timely investigation, remediation, and reporting on data privacy breaches/privacy incidents.
- Ensure timely investigation, response, and reporting on data subject request and/or PAIA information requests, queries or complaints
- Support various data privacy stakeholders across the Group
- Provide advice to Cluster Information Officers, Deputy Information Officers and Privacy Champions, on data privacy issues and their obligations under Data Protection Laws
- Convene and support the Group data privacy structures and forums
Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in law, compliance, data governance, or a related field
- At least 3 – 5 years of relevant experience in governance, compliance, data privacy, data protection, or a related field.
- Experience in a senior data privacy role within a large organization.
- In-depth knowledge of data protection laws and regulations (i.e. POPIA, etc).
- In-depth knowledge of Promotion of Access to Information act requirements and processes (i.e. PAIA, etc).
- Strong understanding of data privacy principles and practices.
