The Group Office provides strategic direction and support to the five clusters, assisting them in realising their strategies and meeting their business objectives. The Group Office is responsible for governance and for the Group's centralised functions, which include: Finance, Actuarial and Risk Management, Strategy, Human Resources, Market Development and Sustainability.

What will you do?

Lead the Group’s external financial reporting agenda and shape reporting excellence across a complex international organisation. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of all statutory, regulatory and public financial disclosures, while maintaining compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, JSE obligations and leading governance practices.

 

As the Group’s technical reporting authority, you will drive continuous improvement in reporting processes, controls and disclosures, elevating reporting beyond compliance to enhance transparency, stakeholder confidence and market credibility. You will champion the use of modern reporting technologies, simplify reporting processes and strengthen alignment across financial statements, regulatory submissions, Board reporting and investor communications.

 

 

Working closely with senior stakeholders across Finance, Investor Relations, Tax, Actuarial, Risk, Company Secretariat, external auditors and regulators, you will provide strategic leadership and technical guidance to safeguard reporting integrity and build a resilient, future-focused reporting function.

 

The role provides Group-wide reporting leadership across South Africa, Pan-Africa, India and Malaysia, ensuring consistent reporting standards and principles while accommodating local regulatory and market requirements.

What will make you successful in this role?

Financial & Regulatory Reporting Leadership

  • Lead the delivery of the Group’s annual, interim, statutory, regulatory and investor-facing financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, transparency, compliance and strong governance.
  • Oversee regulatory submissions, maintain trusted regulator relationships and ensure readiness for evolving reporting requirements.
  • Drive alignment and consistency across financial statements, regulatory submissions, investor communications, Board reporting and market disclosures.

 

Technical Accounting & Reporting Excellence

  • Serve as the Group’s technical accounting authority, providing expert guidance on IFRS, accounting policies and complex transactions.
  • Lead the development of accounting positions, technical papers and governance reporting for senior management, Boards and Audit Committees.
  • Enhance the quality, clarity and credibility of external disclosures, transforming reporting from a compliance exercise into a strategic communication tool.

 

Governance, Audit & Controls

  • Own reporting governance, disclosure controls, certification processes and sign-off frameworks across the Group.
  • Lead external audit engagements, ensuring efficient audit delivery, timely issue resolution and a robust control environment.
  • Establish and maintain high reporting standards, quality benchmarks and consistent practices across multiple jurisdictions.

 

Digital Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Champion reporting modernisation through automation, digital disclosure platforms, XBRL/iXBRL and emerging AI-enabled reporting capabilities.
  • Improve reporting efficiency, data integrity, workflow governance and close-to-report cycle times.
  • Drive continuous improvement in reporting processes, controls, disclosure quality and stakeholder confidence.

 

Leadership

  • Lead and develop a high-performing statutory reporting team while building technical accounting capability across the broader finance function.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Provide Group-wide reporting leadership across South Africa, Pan-Africa, India and Malaysia, promoting consistent standards, knowledge sharing and talent development.

Qualification and Experience

  • CA(SA) or equivalent professional qualification.
  • 10–15 years’ experience in Group Financial Reporting, Statutory Reporting or Technical Accounting within a listed and regulated environment.
  • Deep IFRS expertise with significant experience in listed-company financial reporting, external audit management and regulatory engagement.
  • Proven leadership of complex, multi-entity and multi-jurisdictional reporting environments, ideally within financial services, insurance or banking.
