What will you do?
The Senior UX/UI designer will be responsible for shaping intuitive, efficient and user-centered digital experiences across Glacier’s client and intermediary platforms. The successful candidate will play a key role in translating complex business, regulatory and technical requirements into simple, scalable and meaningful user experiences.
The designer will need to balance both the enhancement of existing digital products and the design of new solutions, ensuring that customer, intermediary and business needs are balanced through thoughtful research, interaction design, prototyping and validation.
This role requires a strong combination of user experience design, interaction design, systems thinking and visual design skills, with the ability to simplify complexity and advocate for user-centred design throughout the product lifecycle. This role will be based in Cape Town.
Key outcomes
The following outcomes will be expected to be achieved by the Senior UX/UI designer:
• Design intuitive end-to-end user experiences for complex financial services products and processes.
• Translate business, regulatory and technical requirements into clear user journeys, workflows and interaction models.
• Facilitate discovery and design activities with stakeholders to understand user needs, business objectives and operational constraints.
• Create user flows, process maps, wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity designs that effectively communicate proposed solutions.
• Conduct and contribute to user research, usability testing and design validation activities.
• Identify pain points, inefficiencies and opportunities within existing digital experiences and recommend improvements.
• Present design concepts, rationale and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
• Collaborate closely with business analysts, developers, product owners and customer experience teams to ensure successful delivery of design solutions.
• Contribute to the evolution of design standards, patterns and best practices.
• Advocate for user-centred design principles throughout projects and delivery teams.
• Balance user needs, business objectives, regulatory requirements and technical feasibility when designing solutions.
• Support the creation of scalable and consistent experiences across web and mobile platforms.
Key Responsibilities
• Use and apply user-centred design methodologies, frameworks, tools and best practices to design intuitive, effective and scalable experiences across Glacier's digital ecosystem.
• Translate complex business, regulatory and technical requirements into clear user journeys, workflows, interaction models and user-centred solutions.
• Design and optimise end-to-end user experiences across multiple channels, systems and touchpoints, considering both client and intermediary needs.
• Apply systems thinking to understand interconnected business processes, user needs, operational requirements and technical constraints when designing solutions.
• Conduct user research, usability testing and discovery activities to validate design decisions, gather insights and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Analyse existing products, journeys and processes to identify pain points, inefficiencies and opportunities for enhanced user experiences.
• Own UX, interaction design and user journey deliverables throughout the product lifecycle, from discovery through to implementation and optimisation.
• Create and communicate design concepts through journey maps, process flows, wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity designs that effectively convey intended solutions.
• Make complex ideas tangible and understandable through visual storytelling, interaction design and facilitation techniques.
• Facilitate workshops, design sessions and collaborative discussions with stakeholders to align on problem statements, requirements, opportunities and proposed solutions.
• Present and explain design decisions to stakeholders, incorporating feedback while maintaining a user-centred approach
• Collaborate closely with business analysts, product owners, developers, customer experience teams and other stakeholders to ensure that solutions are feasible, valuable and aligned to business objectives.
• Identify, design for and document edge cases, exception handling and operational scenarios to ensure robust and scalable user experiences.
• Contribute to and evolve design standards, patterns, principles and design system practices to ensure consistency across products and platforms.
• Champion user-centred design principles within project teams and contribute to the growth of design maturity in the organisation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that increase team effectiveness, design maturity, delivery quality and customer value.
What will make you successful in this role?
Qualifications and experience
• Bachelors degree or equivalent UX/UI design qualification
• 5+ years’ experience as a UX/UI designer or Product Designer
• Experience designing complex digital products across web and mobile applications
• Prior experience of working Agile and in Scrum teams
• Up to date design portfolio (please send this with the CV)
• Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills
• Financial services experience (advantageous)
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript (advantageous)
• Previous UX developer experience (advantageous)
