Underwriter- (3 months FTC)

What will you do?

Vantage a division of Santam has a fixed term opening for an Underwriter to be based in Cape Town. 

What will you do?

The successful candidate will be expected to attend and manage all aspects related to a portfolio of brokers. 

Provide all stakeholders with effective and efficient personal lines underwriting services according to the requires standards and procedures to retain existing clients and secure new business in the support of the business strategy.

What will make you successful in this role?

Duties and responsibilities:

• Underwrites policies according to the underwriting guidelines
• Conduct risk assessments and decide to accept or decline risk 
• Rate policies in keeping with underwriting guidelines
• General enquiries such as but not limited to cover, products, processes etc.
• New business, renewals, endorsements and quotes
• Request, obtain and/or provide brokers with all required information and/or documents
• Analyse client's portfolio
• Apply effective renewal terms and corrective action on completed or unprofitable policies 
• File all relevant documentation electronically
• Cancellations (Follow retention processes)
• Refunds and Raise invoices
• Adhere to company mandates
• Participate and contribute in ad hoc projects
• report any suspected fraud , misrepresentation and/or dishonesty
• Keep accurate record of own activities

Qualification and Experience

• Matric
• FAIS Compliant
• NQF4 Qualification in short-term insurance
• RE5
• 1 year administrative experience
• 2 years personal lines underwriting 

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong administrative skills
• Attention to detail 
• Excellent communication skills
