CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Santam Specialist Solutions has a career opportunity for an Underwriting Administrator in the Marine business area which will be based Alice Lane, Gauteng or PE Office.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform underwriting functions, manage client and stakeholder relationships, and support risk assessment and quotation processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Underwriting Administration
- Execute administrative underwriting duties such as the issuing of new policies, policy maintenance, policy renewal or any other policy related concerns as it relates to complex matters.
- Attend to all system processing and administrative functions as it relates to the underwriting functions in the business area.
- Resolve all administration queries within required timeframe and compliance requirements, as it relates to
- - Premium / debit order queries
- - Broker policy schedule queries
- - Raising invoices
- Issuance of new policies and policy maintenance as it relates to reinsurance and fronting.
- Basic understanding of insurance industry including the reinsurance market and the terminologies used.
- Broad understanding and interpretation of policy wordings, as it specifically relates to the relevant line of business.
- Liaison with finance department and brokers to resolve credit control issues and accounts issues.
- Undertaking client follow-ups as it relates to unpaid premiums.
- Data capturing of policy schedules and all related documentation e.g., endorsements and facultative slips.
- Operationally efficient; able to follow all process requirements.
- Continuously monitor quality and accuracy of the documents and KIT records produced by the system.
- Client Liaison (Internal and External)
- Respond to queries and resolve to the satisfaction of the affected parties within the scope of authority and / or responsibility.
- Manage and resolve client expectation on expected turnaround times for submitted requests.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable with phone and face to face complex discussions with underwriters, brokers and any other relevant stakeholders.
General Administration
- Attend to daily administrative routine tasks in accordance with organisational standards, processes and procedures.
- Display commitment to overall BU strategy and effective execution of processes on M-files and KIT
- Innovate and assist in implementing solutions for improvement of the administrative process.
- Attend to the typing of general correspondence if and when necessary, such as endorsements and cover letters.
- Standing in for team members should they be absent or on leave during busy periods or during absence of key resources, assisting where required.
- Any additional duties as it relates to policy administration as assigned by management if and when required.
- Deadline focused; able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and able to organise own workload effectively to prioritise and delegate to meet service standards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Matric
- Insurance-related qualification
- Minimum 2 – 3 years of administration experience within a short-term insurance organization.
- Marine experience.
