ABOUT THE POSITION

This exciting opportunity is available within Group Underwriting Office – Underwriting Governance at Alice Lane, Sandton. This is a Group-level role in the Group Underwriting office, operating across Santam Group.

JOB PURPOSE

Group Underwriting Governance and Systems Coordinator supports the Group Underwriting & Product Governance functions through the effective administration, analysis, and coordination of underwriting governance processes, data management, and reporting. This role ensures the integrity, accessibility, and insightfulness of data used in underwriting governance and product oversight while driving compliance with Group standards, frameworks, and regulatory requirements. The incumbent acts as a key enabler of efficient governance operations, data analytics, and decision support — bridging administration, underwriting oversight, and business intelligence to enhance Group-wide governance and product lifecycle management.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Governance & Administrative Support: Provide administrative and coordination support to Group Underwriting Governance and Product Management teams.
  • Includes meeting coordination, minute-taking, travel arrangements, presentations, workshops, and communication management.
  • Balance administrative, analytical, and governance support functions under tight deadlines.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Assist in preparing governance, underwriting, and product reports for Group Underwriting Manco and other executive forums. Consolidate, validate, and present data for periodic reviews.
  • Change & Training Support: Drive adoption of governance systems and processes across decentralised teams. Assist with training coordination, communication, and adoption tracking for governance or system-related changes.
  • Data Management & Analytics: Maintain, clean, and analyze data within the Underwriting Governance System and related platforms. Translate complex governance and data insights into clear, actionable outputs for varied audiences. Ensure data integrity and consistency across multiple systems and sources.
  • Generate dashboards and reports that support governance reviews, performance tracking, and decision-making.
  • Research & Insight Generation: Conduct market research, competitor benchmarking, and customer data analysis to inform underwriting and product governance decisions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain effective communication and collaboration with Group and Business Unit stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for governance data and system queries. Manage diverse stakeholder expectations across multiple Group entities with differing priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A relevant Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Data Analytics, or a related field — preferred 
  • Relevant Compliance, Audit and or Risk Management qualification (s) will be an advantage

EXPERIENCE

  • 3–5 years’ experience in administrative, data management, or underwriting governance roles, preferably within a large insurance or financial services organisation.
  • Proven experience in system administration, data analysis, and report generation.
  • Exposure to underwriting systems and governance frameworks.
  • Exposure to and experience with Cura, Power BI, Excel (advanced), or other analytics tools advantageous.

SKILLS

  • Strong proficiency in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of data analytics tools (e.g., Cura, Power BI).
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and visualize data effectively.
  • Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
