What will you do

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and evolving finance environment and will play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and insightful financial information to support decision-making, regulatory compliance and business performance.

This role is ideally suited to a highly analytical finance professional who enjoys working with detail, challenging information, investigating anomalies and transforming financial data into meaningful business insights. The successful candidate will be expected to operate in a complex insurance environment, balancing multiple reporting requirements while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and professional integrity.

The Financial Accountant will support Santam Namibia's financial, statutory, regulatory and management reporting requirements. The role is responsible for preparing, analysing and reviewing financial information, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements, and supporting the ongoing enhancement of financial controls and reporting processes. The position requires exceptional analytical capability, intellectual curiosity and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality outputs within strict deadlines.

What will make you successful in the role?

The candidate will be expected to perform (but not limited to) the following duties:

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

• Prepare month-end reporting files, journals, reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Perform detailed analysis of income statement and balance sheet movements and provide meaningful commentary on financial performance.
• Conduct monthly variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior periods, identifying key drivers of movements.
• Analyse large volumes of financial data to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, emerging risks and opportunities.
• Translate financial information into concise and actionable insights for management.
• Support monthly management reporting and quarterly reporting to management, Board committees and regulators.
• Assist with budget preparation, forecasting and financial performance analysis.

Financial Control & Technical Accounting

• Review financial information critically for completeness, accuracy, reasonableness and consistency prior to submission.
• Investigate reconciling items and data discrepancies, determine root causes and drive resolution of issues.
• Support the maintenance and enhancement of internal financial controls and reporting processes.
• Identify control deficiencies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with technical accounting research.
• Maintain complete, accurate and audit-ready supporting documentation and working papers.

Regulatory, Statutory, Tax & Audit Reporting

• Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements and related disclosures.
• Support the compilation and submission of regulatory returns and statutory reporting requirements.
• Coordinate information requests from internal and external auditors and ensure timely completion of audit deliverables.
• Liaise with Group Finance and other stakeholders regarding reporting requirements and technical accounting matters.
• Assist in compilation and submission of various taxes to NamRa.

Treasury & Payments

• Assist with cash-flow monitoring.
• Assist in review and approval of management expenses and payment runs.

Stakeholder Management

• Work closely with the Financial Manager, CFO, and broader finance team to achieve reporting and business objectives.
• Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide financial and analytical support to business initiatives where required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 22 points in Grade 11 (new curriculum) or 12 (old curriculum)
• Relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Completed articles, or equivalent relevant financial reporting experience.
• Demonstrated experience in reconciliations, month-end reporting and financial analysis.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience in an insurance environment (advantageous).

Foreign qualifications must be submitted with an evaluation report from the Namibia Qualification Authority (NQA).
