CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Santam Namibia is seeking a dynamic and experienced Finance Manager to join our team based in Windhoek, Namibia.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

The Financial Manager plays a critical role in supporting the Chief Financial Officer and broader leadership team by providing technical financial expertise, insightful analysis, strategic business support and strong financial governance. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, maintaining a robust control environment, driving regulatory compliance and delivering meaningful financial insights that support sound business decision-making.

This role requires a highly analytical and commercially astute individual who can work independently, take ownership of outcomes, solve complex problems and build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted business partner and key support to the CFO across operational, regulatory, strategic and financial matters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will be expected to perform (but not limited to) the following duties:

Financial Management & Reporting

• Managing and reporting on the overall financial performance of Santam Namibia.
• Preparation and review of monthly management reports and financial analysis for Executive Management and the Board.
• Coordinating the budgeting, forecasting and business planning processes.
• Preparing annual financial statements and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements.
• Providing detailed financial analysis and interpretation of business performance, trends and key profitability drivers.
• Supporting strategic decision-making through meaningful financial insights and recommendations.
• Reviewing and challenging financial assumptions, budgets, forecasts and business cases.

Technical Accounting & Regulatory Compliance

• Maintaining expert knowledge of IFRS and ensuring accurate application of accounting standards.
• Supporting the implementation and ongoing application of IFRS 17 requirements.
• Managing quarterly and annual regulatory reporting requirements.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, corporate governance standards and company policies.
• Supporting engagements with regulators and other external stakeholders.
• Assisting with interpretation and implementation of new accounting, regulatory and reporting requirements.

Audit, Risk & Controls

• Coordinating external and internal audit activities.
• Driving resolution of audit findings and strengthening the control environment.
• Maintaining effective financial controls, policies and procedures.
• Identifying and managing financial, operational and regulatory risks.
• Collaborating with Risk & Compliance to proactively identify, assess and mitigate risks impacting the business.

Treasury & Investment Management

• Overseeing treasury activities, liquidity management and working capital optimisation.
• Supporting investment reporting and monitoring activities.
• Monitoring cash flow and capital requirements to ensure ongoing financial stability.
  
  

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

• Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders including regulators, auditors, actuaries, financial institutions, service providers, Group Finance and business leaders.
• Supporting and developing members of the Finance team.
• Promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and high performance.
• Collaborating effectively across business units to achieve strategic objectives.
• Acting as a trusted advisor and support partner to the CFO and wider leadership team.

Continuous Improvement & Business Support

• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and reporting efficiencies.
• Leveraging data and analytics to support informed decision-making.
• Leading and supporting strategic initiatives and finance-related projects.
• Contributing to the continuous enhancement of finance systems, processes and reporting capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 22 points in Grade 11 (new curriculum) or 12 (old curriculum)
• Qualified Chartered Accountant CA(NAM) or ACCA qualified accountant.
• Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience in a financial management role.
• Short-term insurance industry experience will be a distinct advantage.
• Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, technical accounting and regulatory compliance.
• Experience interacting with auditors, regulators and senior leadership teams.
• Proven experience managing multiple priorities within a fast-paced and highly regulated environment.

Foreign qualifications must be submitted with an evaluation report from the Namibia Qualification Authority (NQA).

KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE

• Advanced knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
• Strong understanding of IFRS 17.

• Knowledge of the Namibian Insurance Act, Companies Act and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Strong knowledge of taxation principles and corporate tax compliance.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong analytical and data interpretation capability.
• Experience with financial reporting and consolidation systems.
• Experience with Hyperion Financial Management or similar reporting tools would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of risk management and corporate governance principles.
