A career opportunity is available for an Underwriter in the Santam Namibia Specialist Solutions department. This position will be based in Windhoek, Namibia.

What will you do?

The position calls for a person with strong, technical, and corporate underwriting and reinsurance expertise within the Specialist environment to assist Sales and Intermediaries with quoting and underwriting support at an operational level, with a clear focus on growth, profitability, and efficiency in line with Santam Namibia’s objectives.

What will make you successful in this role?

The candidate will be expected to perform (but not limited to) the following duties:

• Administration and issuance of policies on the Santam underwriting platform.
• Ensuring that all documentation is processed accurately, and reinsurance is placed, if needed.
• Preparation of Policy Document for signature by Head: Specialist Solutions.
• Completion of renewal reviews timeously and in line with underwriting and reinsurance guidelines.
• Manage the Namfisa dispensation process.
• Ensure legislation and regulatory changes are adhered to and implemented within the underwriting environment.
• Resolving and communication feedback on escalated customer queries and complaints.
• Attending to daily operational underwriting tasks.
• Managing the standard of delivering of daily work in line with standard operating procedures and service levels.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with key staff and key stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 22 points in Grade 11 (new curriculum) or 12 (old curriculum)
• NQF4 Short Term Insurance Qualification and/or
• Degree (preferably in business or financial)
• 3 – 5 years’ underwriting experience
• Reinsurance experience will be an added advantage.

Foreign qualifications must be submitted with an evaluation report from the Namibia Qualification Authority (NQA).
